Calls to action in social posts: before and after

Five real call-to-action rewrites, across five different small businesses — plus the four habits behind every one of them. No signup required; use whichever parts are useful and write your own closing lines with them if you'd rather do it yourself.

Local florist

Before: vague sign-off

Check us out!

After: one clear step

Order by 2pm for same-day delivery in Fairview — link in bio.

Why it works: "Check us out" asks for attention, not action. Naming the exact next step and the deadline gives someone who was already interested a reason to act today instead of scrolling past.

Bike repair shop

Before: vague sign-off

DM us for more info.

After: one clear step

Flat tire, brakes, or a tune-up — book a 15-minute slot this week, link in bio.

Why it works: "DM us" puts all the work on the customer to figure out what to ask. Naming the common jobs and a specific, small commitment (15 minutes) makes booking feel easy instead of open-ended.

Home cleaning service

Before: vague sign-off

Follow for more cleaning tips!

After: one clear step

First clean 20% off this month — message us your postcode to check availability.

Why it works: A follow ask trades a post for more posts, not for a customer. An offer with a clear condition and a single, easy action (send a postcode) turns a casual scroller into a lead.

Pottery studio

Before: vague sign-off

Link in bio!

After: one clear step

Beginner wheel class Thursday 6pm — 4 spots left, book through the link in bio.

Why it works: "Link in bio" alone doesn't say what's waiting there or why to go now. Naming the specific class, the day, and the scarcity gives someone a reason to tap before they close the app.

Pet sitting service

Before: vague sign-off

Let us know if you need us!

After: one clear step

Traveling next month? Lock in your dates now — spots for December are filling up.

Why it works: A passive offer waits for the customer to remember you later, when they likely won't. Naming the season and the real constraint (filling up) moves the decision to today.

The four habits behind every rewrite above

Ask for one specific action

A post that asks someone to "check us out," "follow," and "DM us" all at once usually gets none of the three. One clear next step — book, order, message a postcode — is far more likely to happen than three vague ones.

Give a reason to act now, not eventually

A deadline, a limited number of spots, or a time-bound offer turns "maybe later" into "today." Without one, even an interested reader has no reason to act before they forget.

Make the first step smaller than "buy"

Asking a cold scroller to book or purchase immediately is a big jump. Asking them to send a postcode, pick a day, or reply with one detail is a much smaller step that still moves them toward a sale.

Match the action to the platform

"Link in bio" works on Instagram but means nothing on a platform where links are clickable in the post itself. Say exactly where and how to act for the platform the post is actually on.
